The BOE voted to adjourn the Public Hearing at 5:40 p.m.
The Regular Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m.
Members present: Coleman, Stubblefield, Gooden, Harris, Moore, Nelson (on the phone), McAllister. Also present: Financial Dirctor Blake and Superintendent Rice.
James Gibson addressed the board with his concerns that the science lab could not be utilized for students to do the experiments necessary to fulfill the requirements by the ISBE. The lab has been reassigned for Art. Mr. Gibson has expressed his concern before but to no avail.
Having been in exile for 12 years now, I do not understand the necessity of this 'controversy'. The science lab is, well, a science lab, with the appropriate equipment...even adorned with a plaque recognizing the donation of money to equip same. Art? Maybe in the decade plus that I have been gone, they have done major renovations on the inside. There used to be an Art room at the north end of the building, the pod...even had its own little office. That Art room had sinks and stuff especially designed for the pursuit of artistic endeavors. Maybe I need to go back to CJSHS and take a tour, see just what has been done during the years of my absence. I might also want to document the aforementioned plaque...maybe contact those folks or their descendants and inquire as to whether they were contacted - and approved - the reallocation of their donation. Bottom line: It's a shame, that after so many years of peace, that those who don't know history are rattling cages, poking bears.
BTW: If/When I do take the tour of CJSHS, I'll be sure to wear my mask...although, rumor has it, that masks may not always be required.
Item 4 - Agendas were approved.

The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:42 p.m.
