CAT Tracks for January 14, 2012
CAT JOURNAL...JANUARY 14 |
R-Rated Rejects...
The CAT below was going to be lying on Leotis's bed when he exited the bathroom after receiving the "Friday the 13th Scare Treatment".
However, as Editor/Producer, it was my belief that while heightening emotion is a good thing, there was a danger in peaking too soon. Expletives can be very effective, but not if overly used. Since we already had more than enough footage of CATs reacting to Swopes "buff appearance", the CAT below was paid union wages for his services but did not appear in the CAT Journal...Friday the 13th Edition...
The CAT below is a real contender...
I truly think that a bright future awaits!
As you can see, the audition video is a real knockout. In fact, I personally had this CAT rated number one for the final scene. That pose...THAT VOICE!
This CAT's fate was clearly a matter of the lasting impact of "first impressions".
Now, don't get me wrong...the CAT below did absolutely nothing wrong. However, the audition for the CAT below followed that of the CAT eventually chosen to appear in the final cut of our CNN Special Presentation. That fact alone is what I think swayed the final decision of judges.
Just between us CATs, since dubbing is frowned upon in some circles and can actually ruin careers (see Milli Vanilli), we actually used the booming voice of the CAT pictured below in our climatic R-Rated ending...
CAT Tracks Editor's Note:
As an old history teacher, I was tempted to pull an "Abraham Lincoln" on the judges. Once upon a time...at a Cabinet meeting, following a lengthy discussion, Abraham Lincoln called for a vote on an issue he favored. Without exception, his advisors voted "NO". Voting last, Lincoln said: "Aye...and the ayes have it."
However, after napping on it, I finally approved their decision. The decider for me was that the CAT pictured above chose to deviate from the script, choosing to frame the response as "I am A CAT" (emphasis added.)
Although there is certainly nothing wrong with taking pride in membership, the message that needed to be delivered was NOT of a single individual standing up to the evil represented by the man standing on the roof of his car wagging his middle fingers. The message that carries the day - every day - is the strength in numbers.
In fact, that's what inspired the final scene...the unity of CATs marching back to the CJSHS cafeteria chanting: "I AM CAT, I AM CAT, I AM CAT..."
Solidarity forever!!!
