THE BOE'S TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS

This post is a follow-up to my catty commentary of May 8th and (originally) May 14th.

As you will see, I went back a month in the "Open Accounts Payable List" to find the transportation and food allowance.

The reproductions below show the $631.67 and $250 spent by each BOE member who attended the National School Board Association's national conference...

...in alphabetical order (by first name): Arnold Burris, Artie McBride, Gabrielle Harris, Mary K. Coleman, Rodney Moore, and Sheila Nelson. As the District documents show, that is a total of $881.67 each for of the six members attending.

Doing the math, that's a total of $5,290.02 for mileage and food. Add that total to the previously documented $5,893.32 for lodging, that's a total price tag for the New Orleans getaway of...

$11,183.34

...which is pretty damn close to the aforementioned figure of $12,500 to purchase one set of uniforms for every child in the District, uniforms required by the BOE starting with the 2014-2015 School Year...

...an amount that the Superintendent unashamedly told the media that the District is a-begging.

As for me?

Well, let's just say that "I gave at the office"...

...or, more specifically, I "donated" my share to school uniforms when I paid my property taxes.

Bears repeating...

If the Cairo Board of Education actually believes that uniforms make the student, then it needs to put its money where its mouth is...

...and spend a tiny fraction of its $4.6 million dollar "rainy day fund".

Hey, maintain the nest egg, stay home next year...

for the children!
